Six Hours In Madrid

SIX HOURS IN MADRID

I recently was on a business trip to Spain. I was able to arrive a day early and spend the time in Madrid before heading to Valencia for the week. I was hoping to see a few of the major highlights. I took a quick nap after arriving at 6 am then grabbed a map and headed out towards the Royal Palace. Unfortunately for me, the palace closed early due to elections that day. So I had to be happy with a few pictures from outside.

As I walked around I was so taken with the doors. Such beautiful doors! I love doors and was able to capture so many with such amazing detail and color.

I stopped by Plaza Mayor, a grand arcaded square in the center of Madrid. Again another place filled with color and character.

I absolutely loved the architecture! The tall ornate doors, the iron balconies, warm stonework and tall spires line the streets.

There was a big flea market going on - blocks and blocks of streets closed down so vendors and entertainers could set up for the day.

I loved this neighborhood. I walked around to corner and found this big billboard advertising Jack Ryan. It struck me so funny.

Although I did not have much time, I had enough to get a sense of the city and enough to realize I want to go back and explore some more!
